DUST HAZARD ANALYSIS (DHA) SERVICE
IDENTIFICATION OF COMBUSTIBLE DUST HAZARDS FOR NFPA COMPLIANCE
A Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) is a systematic process that identifies and evaluates the potential for fire, deflagration, and explosions caused by dust and particulate solids in a facility.
The goal of a DHA is to create a plan to minimize or mitigate these risks, thus insuring workplace safety. Your facility and processes are reviewed to determine where credible fire, flashfire, and explosion hazards exist and create a plan to minimize or mitigate those risks.
NFPA 652 requires a dust hazard analysis every five years, even if no changes have been made to your facility or processes. A DHA is also required if you have made new installations or expanded or upgraded existing installations. NFPA 654 Chapter 8 requires facilities to cover hazard mitigation methods and best practices.
While NFPA standards are not enforceable, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) relies on these standards when conducting enforcement activities under the Combustible Dust National Emphasis Program.
