AT&T Serves Up "Mobile Share" For Gadget-Hungry Families
/THE AT&T MOBILE SHARE PLAN GIVES NEW OPTIONS FOR YOUR CONNECTED DEVICES
Well folks, AT&T has jumped into the shared data plan offering with their new Mobile Share program. This is a great new way for data-munching multi-gadgeted people to devour their tasty bytes on a monthly basis. I'm glad to see this offered.
The basic concept is, you chose how many monthly gigabytes of data you want to set yourself up with based on your own consumption habits.
You get to add the number of smartphones to your overal data pool on a cost-per-phone basis. You can also add on feature phones, laptops, tablets, or even gaming devices for an extra fee to round off your package deal.
What I like about the AT&T plan is that you have a much wider range of options than what you get from competitor Verizon Wireless. AT&T's plans start at 1Gb/month and go all the way to 20Gb/month, with the ability to add up to ten devices.
For example, lets say you pick the 6Gb plan for $90 and you have two smartphones and a tablet. You'd add $40 for each smartphone, then $10 for the tablet data. Your total monthly plan investment would be $90+$40+$40+$10 = $180. That's pretty advantageous!
And here's an even bigger advantage... with AT&T, you don't have to chose a Mobile Share plan. If it doesn't fit, you still have the traditional options available to you. People like me with a grandfathered data plan can stay put. With 4 smartphones in my home plus a laptop in use, I might decide to move to Mobile Share in the future if I get a tablet. But for now, I'm good.
You don't have that choice with Verizon. If you are a new customer, it's Verizon's "Share Everything" plan or bust. Meanwhile, AT&T's Mobile Share co-exists right along with the traditional offerings.
This will probably be the wave of the future as families are becoming more gadget conscious and data dependent. My guess is that it will only get better from here as the carriers compete to provide the most comprehensive and flexible data package offerings. Time will tell!
